Types of LHD Volvo Cars (models)
Since 2002, Volvo Cars has manufactured and marketed the XC90 luxury mid-size SUV. It's now in its second generation. First introduced at the 2002 NAIAS, it shared its platform with other large Volvos, including the Volvo S80 first generation. Torslandaverken, Volvo's vehicle production facility, built it. The Volvo XC Classic was renamed Volvo XC Classic at the end of 2014 after Volvo stopped production in Sweden and moved equipment to China.

Origin of LHD Volvo
There's a reason why Volvos had the left-hand drive in Sweden in the days when traffic was left-handed. Here's a quote from Volvo's Assar Gabrielsson, from his 1936 sales manual: Sweden's roads were narrow and twisty when automobiles first appeared. The horse and carts and other cars were hard to pass, and you had to stay on the left shoulder. Cars in the USA are always delivered with the steering wheel on the left, and for a small market like Sweden, they weren't eager to switch to right-hand drive. As a result, American car salesmen in Sweden often overemphasized the left shoulder's importance. Due to this, the Swedish people have become used to having the steering wheel on the left, even though Sweden has left-hand traffic. Most other countries have the steering wheel on the left side when it's right-hand traffic and on the right side when it's left-hand traffic.
In our opinion at Volvo, the left shoulder isn't that important when you consider the road standard. Overtaking is a lot easier when you have good visibility. Therefore, it makes the most sense that Volvos are right-hand drive. However, we decided to keep left-hand drive since we don't want to pioneer this. Our dealers would be overworked if we only sold right-hand drive Volvos so that we won't do that. You'll still see left-hand drive cars from us. Volvo trucks and buses can be ordered with left- or right-hand drives, depending on what the customer wants.
